Recently, the first large overseas production facility of the Chinese enterprise in South Africa, by organizing the Cloud Open Day, helped people see with their own eyes the charity automobile production base built by FAW in the overseas market, so as to witness how FAW brings benefits to the local people.
Well, let's start our visit to the overseas factory of Chinese enterprise by attending the FAW Cloud Open Day.
Recently, the Cloud Open Day hosted by FAW South Africa was opened in its Coega factory in South Africa. It was the first time for the factory to be open to the public. In the form of video, it displays the first large-scale overseas production facility of FAW from various perspectives and in the dimensional way.
In 1994, the first FAW truck was exported to South Africa, which was the first and only Chinese automobile brand in South Africa. Over the years, FAW has been moving forward continuously. The Coega assembly factory, which is the representative project of FAW, was completed and put into operation in 2014. Covering an area of more than 87,000 square meters, the project has the total construction area at more than 30,000 square meters, whose truck products are sold to nearly 10 countries in southern and eastern Africa.
Since in operation, the Coega factory has continuously delivered high-quality talents to the local automobile industry, directly created 240 jobs and indirectly brought about more than 1,500 jobs. Relying on its high quality, its sales volume in South Africa market have increased. In recent years, more than 1,000 vehicles have been imported and sold, thus highly praised by the South African government and local society. It is known as “a model of China-South Africa cooperation”.
FAW has always been committed to promoting the development of public welfare in its host country. Since the establishment of the FAW South Africa CSR Foundation in 2014, the company has been supporting the local development of education, bringing training in technology, finance and management to the local people, creating more job opportunities and jointly contributing to employment though the region has its unemployment rate as high as 30%.
The Cloud Open Day also revealed to the public the efforts and contributions of FAW to continuously practice the concept of public welfare and actively fulfill CSR. Steven Erusmus, Safety Manager of FAW South Africa, said, “Since its completion, FAW South Africa has created a large number of job opportunities, enabled its employees to realize their personal value, and is proud of manufacturing high-quality trucks.”
The sense of responsibility is the driving force for workers to make progress. In this regard, CINIC Human, head of the diesel engine maintenance team of FAW South Africa, said, “As a diesel engine repairman, I have benefited a lot from working in FAW, learning a lot from assembly to logistics. Because of my hard work, I also hold a leadership position for the first time, which makes me very proud. I am learning how to effectively manage people and strive to do better.”
Talent training has always been the top priority when making “joint efforts for employment in South Africa”. Thanks to the variety of learning scenarios and training programs, employees continue to grow in the employment experience of Chinese enterprises. Jean Jacques Mwanza, the diesel mechanic of FAW South Africa, said, “As an immigrant from Congo to South Africa, I felt difficult in the beginning, which didn't go well until I joined FAW South Africa. FAW South Africa not only has improved my living standard, but also helped me with my study. Now I am very happy to become a FAW diesel mechanic (Level 6).”
The success of FAW in South Africa proves the bright future for the Chinese automakers intending to build factories in Africa and grow together with auto industry in Africa. In the future, FAW will strive to broaden export channels, improve financial services, give full play to the base advantages of South Africa, do a good job to “serve Africa while based in South Africa” and jointly build a happy life in South Africa.
The Chinese enterprises, when operating overseas, “not only do business, but also make friends”. The Chinese enterprises have become the “vanguard” to practice the concept of a community with a shared future for mankind by giving full play to their strength points and accelerating international cooperation.
The Cloud Open Day has been widely reported by domestic and foreign media. These reports are released in Chinese, French and English languages on media and social platforms all over the world.
